Amtrak Trail & Rails
As a leader in rail preservation, the NRHS has joined with National Railroad Passenger Corporation, Amtrak, and the National Park Service to develop a public service program to provide historical narrators aboard Amtrak trains. The narrators entertain passengers with accurate and informative railroad stories, descriptions and historical details about points along the way.
You can find our narrators on the following Amtrak routes:
- Cardinal (Washington - Chicago via Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana)
- Adirondack (New York - Montreal)
- Vermonter (New York - St. Albans, VT)
Railfans and rail preservationists: Volunteers Needed!
How would you like to share your love of trains and get others excited about rail preservation? We need volunteers to support and expand this historic program. Volunteers are enrolled in the Park Service’s Volunteers-in-Parks program. You may enroll as an individual, or volunteer through a non-profit organization like your NRHS Chapter. Chapters currently involved are Western Connecticut Chapter, Champlain Valley Chapter, and C.P. Huntington Chapter.
For additional information about the program or to volunteer, please contact the National Office.
